This is how it works

350 000 people suffer from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Europe every year. Only 10% survive. Together we can change this number, and you are an important part of this mission.
The system Sms-livräddare is one link in a lifesaving chain. Volunteer responders can be alerted when someone call 112 and the emergency call centre suspects a cardiac arrest. You get an alarm in your smart phone and directions to the afflicted person on the map in the app Sms-livräddare. The ambulance gets the alarm at the same time as you.
Currently 11 Swedish regions and all of Denmark are connected to the system Sms-livräddare. In Sweden over 130 000 volunteers are ready to get alarms and help others in need.
A couple of important things
Remember the e-mail that you registered in the app. If you forget your password that’s where you get the info. If we have the wrong e-mail for you, you miss important info. In order to get alarms you have to allow location services and that your phone communicates with the app. In the app settings you need to have green check boxes. If anyone is red, follow the link and change the settings on your phone. You can’t change to a new phone number by yourself, contact Support and you will get help.
Safety and alarms
112 has assessed the alarm site as safe according to a number of criteria, but it’s up to you. Avoid risk of contagion or danger. CPR for real is not as in practice. You can meet stressed relatives and come to a place not suitable for CPR. If someone asks who you are, show your Volunteer ID, you find it in Menu, but most of the time 112 has briefed the caller that volunteers are coming. If you need to talk afterwards, reach out to others on site and your close ones. After alarm you get an e-mail with a survey that holds contact info to the region for further support.
About alarms and 112
It’s good if the alarms don’t come often, that means that no one has a cardiac arrest near you. Alarms will come irregularly and it can go some time between them. Run the Test alarm in the app to prepare and regularly practice CPR. 112 can cancel alarms and update when they get new info such as buzz code. If so, you get a message in the app. When you cancel the alarm it doesn’t affect other responders or the entire alarm. For integrity reasons, we don’t share your positions with 112 or the ambulance, therefor they don’t know that you are on the way or when you get there.
Navigation at alarm
When you get alarms, you get directions to the afflicted person, sometimes via an AED that the system chooses for you. By clicking another AED icon on the map, you can change AED and also the route. You can also choose to go directly to the afflicted person by clicing the heart icon that shows the site on the map. Maybe you have your own AED or know one with a better location? You decide what is the most effective procedure. Your position is marked on the map with a blue circle.
On the way and on site
Safety first! Follow the speed limits. Don’t block the way for the ambulance. If you are first on site, start CPR directly. If CPR has started, you can help by taking turns or you can take care of relatives or pets, wave in the ambulance, open doors and help to move furniture. You get alarms in a personal capacity, no matter your profession. Listen to the bluel light staff and give them space to work. Stay if they ask you to, leave when your help is no longer needed. Take care of each other and handle personal information very careful in order not to identify the afflicted person.
Together we save lives
We’re very happy that you want to be a part of the lifesaving team – many thanks! Take a tour in the app and familiarize yourself with the map, the Menu, the links and where the AEDs are situated near you. Most importantly – do test alarms! You reach the Test alarm via Menu and getting to know this flow will make you prepared for the real deal. Tip your friends and family by sharing a picture that you find in Menu. You’re good to go!
